A service review for developing a new liaison psychiatry service

Faced with a serious incident and a coroner’s ruling we needed high level advice. We approached Dr Sean Cross as our Director of Nursing was very impressed with a presentation he made in a national conference. Dr Cross undertook a review of the incident and the local services and provided us with a most comprehensive, insightful, evidence-based analysis of the strengths, gaps and challenges facing both us and our acute trust partner. He provided us with a menu of efficient and effective solutions. This was so convincing that it went a long way in engaging our local commissioners.

Dr Cross continued his assistance in providing us with a framework for developing a new liaison psychiatry service. He assisted us in developing policies, protocols and a training agenda. He didn’t just give us the help we needed at the time but helped us capacity build locally enabling us to take more control in developing our service.

Mental Health Awareness Training

Sean delivered an insightful and relevant session to our team of communication and engagement experts to help them understand mental health, its causes and outcomes and how to help those displaying signs of mental illness in their day-to-day role. His facilitated session was impactful and delivered on all agreed learning outcomes while giving confidence to non-healthcare workers about how to spot and deal with situation they may find themselves in when dealing with stakeholders. I would definitely recommend Sean and his approach to others.

Train the Trainer intervention
A series of Train the Trainer days were designed and delivered for a NHS Clinical Commissioning Group to attempt to skill up their local trust workforce to deliver a basic training package on suicide prevention. The work included both imparting knowledge to a diverse health workforce and to enhance these workers own attitudes and confidence around delivering a basic training intervention subsequent to this.
